Preben Hansen, owner at Platinum Tooling Technologies, has seen significant growth on the medical side of his business in recent years. Platinum Tooling, which is based in Illinois, is the exclusive North American importer of standard and custom live tools, angle heads, and multiple spindle tools manufactured by heimatec GmbH.
For Platinum, a lot of that medical work has focused on the orthopedic implant market. That includes the tools doctors and surgeons need to put those implants in patients. But Hansen said there are so many more applications within medical manufacturing and biomedical engineering, including pacemakers, connectors, spinal parts, bone screws, probes and dental implants.
"It's pretty diverse these days. We need a lot of new parts for our old bodies," he said.
