Cerna Healthcare’s "SafePatch” is a safety wearable skin patch that monitors that provides fall detection, activity monitoring and emergency messaging.
Should there be a medical emergency, the SafePatch send texts and alerts to family members and/or professional monitoring staff. The company said the patch is small, light, water resistant and discreet.
“We are using the latest semi-conductors, algorithms, AI and software to build this product," said Cerna CEO Nick Payzant in a statement. “Leveraging technology to assist our most vulnerable helps tremendously in today’s environment where our elders want to live at home and don’t want to deal with frequent recharging and interaction to operate it. My own mother would not wear a watch or pendant, which got me thinking about how to put a device on her that she wouldn’t care about or have to fuss with.”
The SafePatch with one week’s battery life is paired with software called “FallSoft,” which enables the SafePatch to monitor falls and movement. Alerts and texts are emitted immediately should SafePatch send out an SOS, detect a fall, step count and if there is low battery.
