LivsMed, a provider of minimally invasive surgical devices, has announced the release of ArtiSential 5, what it's calling the first 5mm wristed articulating laparoscopic instrument series on the market. ArtiSential 5 represents a expansion of the company’s ArtiSential line.

Introduced in 2019, the original ArtiSential is a line of single-use laparoscopic instruments with double-jointed end effectors controlled by an ergonomic grip. The end effectors move in synchronization with the surgeon’s natural wrist and hand movements, offering the precision of robotic surgical platforms without the high cost. Additionally, ArtiSential provides tactile feedback, allowing surgeons to apply the right pressure to delicate tissue—something robotic systems cannot achieve. The new ArtiSential 5, which is 40% smaller than the existing 8mm line, offers significant advantages for both surgeons and patients.

ArtiSential 5 instruments are lighter and exceptionally well-balanced, making them easier to handle. Additionally, these instruments offer greater flexibility, as they can be used in any port during laparoscopic or robotic procedures. When utilized in the assist port during robotic surgery, ArtiSential 5 instruments have the potential to reduce procedure costs.

The smaller size of ArtiSential 5 can also improve visibility at the surgical site depending on the type of surgery and the angle of approach.

For patients, the use of a smaller trocar to accommodate the 5mm instrument means a smaller incision, which can result in reduced pain, faster healing, and minimal scarring.
