Phelps, NY – November 25, 2024 – Bear Power Supplies, a business unit of Z-AXIS, has shipped a 750W medical power supply for a CF-rated instrument used in cardiac diagnostics. This American-made power supply meets the most stringent rating under the global IEC 60601-1 3rd edition standard. Medical power supplies with a cardiac floating (CF) rating isolate the AC line from the patient’s heart.

CF rated power supplies must have a patient leakage current that does not exceed 10 µA. Most leakage currents are generated by excessive capacitance between the AC line and the patient. Bear has developed several innovative isolation techniques that yield a leakage current less than 5 µA, exceeding the requirements for Type CF-rated medical devices.

The 750W medical power supply that Bear shipped measures 11.5” x 4.25” x 3.7” and includes a quiet temperature-controlled fan. Bear designs and manufactures custom power supplies for use in diagnostic instruments and patient care devices, and its American-made solutions are found in healthcare environments ranging from primary-care physician offices to operating rooms.

“Bear Power Supplies was selected for this project because of our deep experience with low leakage medical power supplies,” said Michael Allen, President. “We also excel at customization, even for low volumes, and can provide non-standard output voltages, unusual form factors, compact sizes for portable medical devices, encapsulation, and more.”
